why dakis

dakis for photo labs

Ordering, production, and selling online, built for how a lab works

dakis is a unified commerce platform for photo labs and camera stores. Customers order through your website, a kiosk at your counter, or a client gallery. Orders route to the right printer or imposition folder, and you sell prints, albums, frames, and photo products from one catalog. Independent labs and retailers have run on dakis for over two decades.

THE DAKIS WORKFLOW

How an order moves from customer to print

The order arrives

A customer orders from your website, a kiosk at your counter, or a private gallery you have shared with them. All three land in the same place, with the same production workflow behind them..

It arrives ready to produce

The order carries its own instructions. Customer, product, size, paper, and finish arrive attached, ready for the printer.

It reaches the right printer

Orders route by product type automatically. Wall art goes to the wide-format printer, a 4x6 to the minilab, and press work to an imposition folder.

The customer collects it

Customers pick up in store or have it shipped.

Every print order is a production instruction

Photo products are made to order. Two prints of the same image are different jobs if one is matte and one is metallic, and the difference decides which printer produces it. dakis treats the specification as part of the order, which is what lets it route on its own.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I run a photo lab on a general ecommerce platform?

A general platform can take the order. It cannot send it to the right printer. That gap gets filled by a person who opens each order, reads the specification, and moves the file, which works at low volume and becomes a role as orders grow. Every handoff is also a chance for the wrong paper or the wrong size to reach the machine. dakis carries the specification through to production and routes by product type, so the order reaches the printer without the step in between.

  • Does dakis work with the printers I already have?

Yes. dakis supports two setups. In the back lab, IPS Order Manager sends jobs to Fujifilm, Noritsu, Agfa, and Epson minilabs, including older wet and dry labs. At the counter, the kiosk prints directly to the Fujifilm Frontier DX100, the Epson SureLab D1070, and other models.

  • Do I need to replace my point of sale?

No. dakis offers its own point of sale as part of Unified Commerce, and it also connects to existing systems. Labs run dakis for ordering and production without changing what happens at the counter.

  • Do I need a new website to sell online?

You can start on the site you have. Online photo ordering runs on your own domain and under your own brand. Most labs move to a dakis managed website, where ordering, catalog, and content are built as one, and the site is structured to be found by customers searching for a lab near them

  • How do customers order?

From your website on a computer or a phone, from a kiosk in your store, or from a private gallery you share with them.

  • What happens when a product comes out that isn't in the system?

You request it and dakis builds the record, then makes it available to every dakis retailer. New products are added daily.

  • How long does it take to get running?

Most labs are running within a week. A lab with more products, more equipment or more locations can take one to two weeks. The timeline depends mostly on how much of your catalog and setup is ready when you start.
